What's driving investment capital to the Southeast? How do investors look at climate and sustainability versus other verticals? What are some of the challenges faced by startup founders in this space?

At the Atlanta Climate & Sustainability Tech Meetup on February 9, 2022, a panel of experts discussed the current state of venture investment into climate tech. Understory co-hosted the event alongside The Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs and the Greenhouse Accelerator.

Our panelists spanned investors, startup founders, and ecosystem leaders who bring both local and national perspectives to this flourishing space:

  • Jonathan Shieber, Chief Editor and Venture Partner at FootPrint Coalition. Founded by Robert Downey Jr., FootPrint Coalition is a coalition of investors, donors, and storytellers committed to scaling technologies to restore our planet.
  • Allyson Eman, CEO of Venture Atlanta, the region’s largest venture conference gathering together more than 1,200 entrepreneurs, investors, leaders, and students for a high-caliber, 2-day conference.
  • Patrick Chopson, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer at cove.tool, a web-based software for analyzing, drawing, engineering, and connecting data for building design and construction. cove.tool recently closed a $30 million Series B round.

Significant investment is going into Climate Tech as sustainability transformation touches every sector of the economy. Key insights from the session include how to attract investment, the importance of storytelling, what VCs are looking for, and more.
